Trips to Glenwood Springs
Glenwood Springs is where Canyon Spirit stops overnight, and it's easily one of our favorite legs of the whole route for exactly that reason. The Colorado River cuts right through town, boxed in by the canyon walls that give the place its name, and the geothermal hot springs are the first thing most guests want to know about. Doc Holliday spent his final months here, and that Old West thread runs through downtown alongside the shops, restaurants, and riverfront paths that make it an easy town to wander on foot.
Getting To and From Glenwood Springs
Canyon Spirit rolls straight through Glenwood Canyon on its way in, one of the more dramatic stretches of the whole route, with the town’s station sitting right downtown. Grand Junction and Aspen both have regional airports within driving distance if you’re flying in and connecting by ground. However you arrive, you’re close enough to walk into town once you’re there.

Where to Eat in Glenwood Springs
A hundred years of hotel history sits behind one kitchen here, and a taco shop pulling flavors from well outside the usual mountain-town lineup sits just a few blocks away. Craft beer, seasonal fine dining, casual fare, it's all within a short walk of downtown, easy to fold into a day of sightseeing or an evening after the hot springs close.
Named for the cattle and silver barons who built this stretch of Colorado in the 1890s, including Walter Devereux himself, the hotel’s own founder. The Corned Buffalo Hash is what we point guests toward for breakfast, and the Prime Rib on Friday and Saturday nights draws a crowd for good reason. Ask for a table on the courtyard patio if you’re visiting between May and October, dining under a hundred years of history feels a little different outdoors.
Founded in 1996 and still the most awarded brewery on the Western Slope, with twelve beers on rotation year-round and through the seasons. It sits right on 7th Street, just across from the train station, so it’s an easy first or last stop on either end of the Glenwood Springs leg. We steer beer skeptics here too, the wine, cocktail, and cider list holds its own.
Also known as Riviera Scratch Kitchen, and the awards back it up, over 20 Locals’ Choice wins including Best Restaurant and Best Chef. The menu shifts seasonally around fresh, local ingredients, and the wine list is deep enough to match. Open Wednesday through Sunday, reservations recommended, book ahead if you’re set on a table here.
Tacos and hot dogs since 2013, with a menu that pulls in flavors from well outside the usual mountain-town lineup, curry fries, a Cubano taco, a Chicago dog done right. It’s on 7th Street, a few blocks from Baron’s and the brewpub, and it’s the pick we give groups with picky eaters, vegan, vegetarian, or otherwise.
The Pullman presents a modern American dining concept focused on thoughtful cuisine, attentive service, and a welcoming setting. Menus emphasize straightforward yet imaginative dishes paired with well selected wines, all delivered with an approach centered on comfort, quality, and value.

The essentials for planning your stop here: getting around, what to expect from an overnight stay, and how to make the most of your time before Canyon Spirit continues on.
Yes, and it’s one of our favorite overnights on the whole route. Guests arrive by train, spend the night, and continue on the following day, which breaks up the Colorado-to-Utah journey at a pace that doesn’t feel rushed.
You won’t see your bags again until they’re in your room. They travel ahead by motorcoach and are waiting for you at check-in, then get picked up the next morning and delivered to your next hotel before you arrive.
Light. The walk from the station to our partner hotels is short enough that most guests skip the shuttle entirely, though it’s there if you’d rather not carry bags uphill. Downtown itself is easy to cover on foot too.
It shifts fast here, the canyon and elevation see that to it. We tell guests to pack layers no matter the season, mornings and evenings can run noticeably cooler than midday.
That one’s on you, and worth planning around. Westbound travelers usually have enough time before closing; eastbound guests typically don’t, the schedule just doesn’t leave room. Check your itinerary’s arrival time before counting on a soak.
