Rocky Train Vacations – Travel Documents
Your Travel Documents include everything needed for a seamless rail vacation, such as your detailed daily itinerary, hotel confirmations where applicable, tour and transfer vouchers where required, train confirmations, and additional important information to support your trip.
What's Included in your Travel Documents?
This section outlines the key elements of your Travel Documents and how they are organized, including day-to-day itineraries, hotel confirmations, train confirmations, and any supporting materials needed for included activities. Reviewing these documents in advance helps ensure a seamless journey. For convenience, it is recommended to print a copy and save a digital version on your mobile device so important information is always accessible, even when service is limited.
General Information
When you open your Travel Documents Package, the first item you’ll see is a Welcome Letter. This letter provides guidance on how to prepare for your journey and make the most of your Rocky Train Vacation. For a smooth experience, it is recommended to keep a printed copy of your Travel Documents with you throughout the trip, along with a saved copy on your mobile device.
Since some portions of the rail routes may pass through areas without phone service, having both a physical and digital copy ensures you always have access to essential trip information.
Following the Welcome Letter, you’ll find a page of links to helpful resources on our website. These links provide information relevant both before departure and during travel, including details about your rail journey, the destinations you will visit, and tips to help you enjoy your experience.
The package also outlines the best ways to contact Rocky Train Vacations (a division of Canada Rail Vacations Inc.) before your departure and while traveling, ensuring you receive timely assistance whenever needed.

Travel Insurance Information
Travel Insurance for Southwest USA Tour Packages
Protect your Rocky Train Vacation with comprehensive travel insurance designed for premium rail journeys throughout the American Southwest. Insurance plans help safeguard trip investments, medical needs, and travel arrangements while providing 24-hour assistance and expert support. Ideal for mature travelers and retirees, coverage ensures peace of mind so you can focus on enjoying luxury rail travel, curated sightseeing, and immersive experiences throughout your journey.
What is Travel Insurance?
Travel insurance provides coverage for certain costs and losses that may occur during travel. Unexpected events such as illness, accidents, or missed flights can result in significant out-of-pocket expenses, and coverage helps protect the value of a trip while providing peace of mind.
Plans can be purchased online or by phone by providing basic trip details and selecting the option that best fits the itinerary. In the event of a covered loss, claims may be submitted with supporting documentation, and eligible expenses may be reimbursed according to the terms of the policy.
Travel Insurance with Travel Guard®
Travel Guard plans typically include trip cancellation, interruption, and delay protection, emergency medical coverage and evacuation services, and lost or delayed baggage coverage. Optional enhancements can be added for specific travel needs, including Cruise and Tour Protector, Enhanced Benefits Upgrade, and Golf Protector for loss or damage to golf equipment. All plans include 24-hour travel and emergency assistance services. Support may include coordination of medical care, locating lost luggage, arranging missed connections, and other travel logistics to maintain a seamless luxury experience.
What's Covered?
Many travel insurance plans include a core set of coverages. Most Travel Guard plans provide protection for trip cancellation, trip interruption, trip delay, lost luggage, and emergency medical expenses.
Additional coverages can be added to suit specific travel needs. Options include Golf Protector for loss, theft, or damage to golf equipment, Enhanced Benefits Upgrade coverage, Cruise and Tour Protector coverage, and more. Selecting the right coverage depends on the type of trip and planned activities, including luxury excursions, high-value personal items, or extended multi-destination itineraries.
Most plans also include access to Travel Guard’s travel and emergency assistance services. These services support travelers during medical emergencies, last-minute flight changes, or other unexpected disruptions. Representatives can assist with coordinating medical care, arranging alternative accommodations, locating lost luggage, and managing unforeseen issues, ensuring a seamless and stress-free travel experience.
What's Not Covered?
Travel insurance coverage, limitations, and exclusions vary depending on the plan selected and the type of trip. Generally, non-refundable expenses, such as deposits, are covered, as these amounts are not reimbursed by the original travel supplier.
Travel insurance is intended for unforeseen events. If an event occurs before a policy is purchased, it is no longer considered unforeseen and may not be covered. For example, lost luggage must occur after the policy is in effect to be eligible for reimbursement. Plans can be customized with optional upgraded coverage to provide additional protection based on the specific travel itinerary, individual travel requirements, and any specialty or high-value activities included.
All travel insurance policies include exclusions and limitations, making it essential to review the policy of insurance document thoroughly prior to purchase. This document details coverage, terms, and exclusions, ensuring travelers understand the full scope of protection, potential limitations, and practical applications before and during the trip.
What If I Already Have Medical Insurance?
Even if existing health insurance is in place, coverage may be limited, particularly for international travel. Review your current health policy to confirm whether it provides the protection needed while traveling.
Most Travel Guard travel insurance plans include access to award-winning travel and emergency assistance services. These services are available year-round to support medical emergencies, unexpected travel disruptions, or logistical issues. Representatives can help coordinate medical appointments, secure replacement flights, or manage other unforeseen events, allowing travelers to navigate international or unfamiliar environments with confidence and peace of mind.
Frequently Asked Questions
Travel insurance should be purchased as soon as your trip deposit is made. Coverage must be in effect before an unforeseen event occurs in order to be eligible for benefits such as trip cancellation or interruption protection.
Coverage for pre-existing conditions varies by plan and eligibility requirements. Some plans may offer waivers if purchased within a specified timeframe after your initial trip payment. Review the policy details carefully to understand qualification guidelines.
Travel insurance is not mandatory; however, it is strongly recommended due to the investment involved in luxury rail journeys and the potential for unforeseen travel disruptions.
Yes. Many plans offer optional enhancements to address extended itineraries, cruise components, specialty excursions, or high-value personal items. Coverage can often be tailored to align with the complexity and value of your travel arrangements.
Travel insurance quotes can be requested directly through Travel Guard or through the provider of your choice. Coverage options and pricing will vary based on trip cost, destination, duration, and traveler age.

The train is designed for daylight travel between Denver, Colorado, Moab, Utah, and Salt Lake City, Utah, featuring oversized windows perfect for viewing the Colorado Rockies and Red Rock canyons.
There are two primary rail routes available. The classic Denver to Moab (or reverse) is a two-day journey that includes an overnight stay in Glenwood Springs, CO. For a longer experience, the Denver to Salt Lake City (or reverse) route spans three days, extending the journey through the Wasatch Mountains with overnight stops in both Glenwood Springs and Moab.

The Premier Upgrade enhances this experience with exclusive access to the Lounge Car, an outdoor viewing platform, and elevated dining options featuring regional ingredients.
No, the Canyon Spirit is strictly a daylight train to ensure the scenery is always visible. Passengers disembark each evening to stay in comfortable hotels in Glenwood Springs, Moab, or Salt Lake City, allowing for exploration of these unique destinations before reboarding the next morning.

Yes. Rocky Train Vacations can arrange additional nights in select destinations as part of an all-inclusive Canyon Spirit or Rocky Mountaineer tour.
Any adjustments must align with fixed Canyon Spirit and Rocky Mountaineer train schedules, which operate on limited departure dates each week. Planning early allows greater flexibility, as these premium rail journeys often sell out well in advance.
Moab is the scenic terminus for the rail journey and serves as the primary gateway to the Red Rock landscapes of the American Southwest. The town offers a variety of premium accommodations and dining options, allowing guests to relax in comfort amidst the dramatic sandstone surroundings before or after their rail journey.
Glenwood Springs is a historic resort town nestled in the Colorado Rockies and serves as the overnight midway point for the train. It is famous for the Glenwood Hot Springs, a historic location that has attracted travelers for over a century. The town offers a leisurely atmosphere with easy access to the Colorado River and historic downtown district, perfect for a relaxing evening off the train.
Salt Lake City is a major urban hub and the capital of Utah, often serving as the arrival or departure point for the three-day rail route. The city is defined by the impressive architecture of Temple Square and the backdrop of the Wasatch Mountains. It provides extensive luxury hotel options and seamless flight connections, making it an ideal location to begin or conclude a luxury rail vacation.
The train departs from the historic Denver Union Station in the heart of downtown Denver. For a seamless start to your vacation, private car transfers can be arranged to transport you directly from the airport to your downtown hotel or the rail station. Alternatively, the University of Colorado A Line offers direct rail service from the airport to Union Station.
Booking & Logistics
The rail season operates from April to November, offering distinct scenic advantages depending on the month. Spring departures feature desert wildflowers and snow-capped peaks, while the autumn months of September and October are highly sought after for the vibrant fall foliage in the Colorado Rockies.
Yes. A popular option for extended travel is the “Two Nation Vacation,” which combines the Canyon Spirit route in the USA with a Rocky Mountaineer journey in Canada. We can coordinate the logistics to align your American Southwest itinerary with a flight to Vancouver or Calgary, creating a comprehensive North American rail experience.
Yes. The onboard culinary experience is a key part of the luxury offering. Both Signature Service and Premier Upgrade guests enjoy multi-course meals prepared with regional ingredients, along with complimentary alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages served at their seats throughout the journey.
The Canyon Spirit is designed to accommodate guests with limited mobility. The train cars feature hydraulic lifts for boarding and disembarking. When booking your package, please advise us of your specific needs so we can ensure that your hotel accommodations in Denver, Glenwood Springs, and Moab are also fully accessible.
Tour prices are listed per person and are based on double occupancy, where two guests share one hotel room and divide the accommodation cost.
Single, Double, Triple, and Quad describe how many guests are staying in each room. Guests traveling together should review double pricing, which reflects the per person rate.
Single occupancy is priced higher because the full hotel room cost applies to one guest. For Single, Triple, or Quad arrangements, a personalized quote can be provided to ensure the best option for each travel group.
